What junk removal costs in Colorado Springs, and what moves the number

The question everyone asks first, answered with the figures we actually use. National cost-guide ranges for 2026, by the truck and by the item, then the three things about this city that push a price up or down.

The short version

A load is priced by how much of the truck it fills, how much it weighs, how far it has to be carried, and whether anything in it carries a surcharge. The national average is about $225 a load, with the typical range $115 to $450, a single item from about $90 and a full truck up to about $675. Those are budgeting figures. The real number is set by the crew after a free look, and you can refuse it.

Some companies set a minimum of two cubic yards, an eighth to a quarter of a truck. Ours is the single-item line: from about $90.

Shed demolition, garage cleanouts as a separate job, and hoarding cleanup have no reliable published figure, so we don't print one. They are priced after a look, by the load table above plus the time.

Three things about this city that move the price

Stairs and slope

Colorado Springs climbs west from about 6,000 feet, and a great deal of its housing is split-level or built into a hillside. A sofa from a walk-out basement up an exterior stair, a hot tub on a deck a storey above the yard, a Manitou house with no driveway at all: the carry is work, and it is in the price. A Cimarron Hills ranch with the garage on the driveway is the cheap end of the same job.

Weight

The landfill and the transfer stations charge by weight. A truck of cushions, cardboard and cabinets weighs little; a truck of tile, concrete, soil or roofing tear-off weighs a great deal. Same space, very different tipping fee. If a load has both, keeping the heavy material separate lets the crew price each honestly.

Surcharged items

Mattresses and box springs, tires, televisions and monitors, and any appliance holding refrigerant carry fees that are passed through by name. Refrigerant has to be recovered by a licensed hazardous-waste handler before a fridge or freezer can be scrapped; there is no honest way around that step.

What is not in the price

Paint, solvents, oil, chemicals, propane, asbestos and medical waste, because they cannot ride in a hauling truck at all. The crew sets them aside and tells you where they can go. See what we take and what we can't.

Same day and weekends

Same-day and weekend work is available most days. It can carry a small premium when the schedule is full; the crew says so when the time is booked, not at the truck.

Asked often

Is the look really free?

Yes. The crew comes, looks, names a price. If you say no, nothing is owed and the number holds for thirty days.

Why can't you price it over the phone?

Because the two things we can't see on the phone, the carry and the weight, are the two things that move the price most. A firm phone quote is a guess.

Is it cheaper to put everything at the curb?

A little, since the carry is shorter. Check your HOA first; many here don't allow it for long.

Does a neighbor's load on the same truck cost less?

Yes. Two half loads on one trip are cheaper than two trips. Put them together and tell us.

Do you charge by the hour?

No. By the load, with the time to sort included when it's a cleanout.
