Appliance removal in Colorado Springs, including the ones with refrigerant
The dead fridge in the garage, the washer that walked itself across the laundry room one last time, the water heater the plumber left on the driveway. We disconnect what is safe to disconnect, carry it out and route it to scrap, with the refrigerant handled the way the law requires.
Appliances are heavy, awkward and worth something as scrap, which is why they are nearly always the cheapest thing per pound on the truck. The exception is anything that holds refrigerant: refrigerators, freezers, window air conditioners, dehumidifiers. Those cannot go to a landfill as they are. The refrigerant has to be recovered by a licensed hazardous-waste handler before the unit is scrapped, and that step is a surcharge on the quote, named as what it is.
Washers, dryers, dishwashers, ranges, microwaves and water heaters have no refrigerant and go straight to metal recycling after the dump run. A working appliance in decent shape is routed to donation or reuse where possible instead.
Disconnection
The crew will unplug an appliance and disconnect a washer's hoses or a dryer's vent. Gas lines and hard-wired connections are a different matter: a gas range, a gas dryer or a gas water heater should be shut off and capped by a plumber or the gas company before the crew arrives, and a hard-wired cooktop or oven by an electrician. Tell us when you book and we will tell you what needs to happen first so nobody is standing in a kitchen with a live line.
The appliance-only trip and the add-on
A single fridge from the garage is the $50 to $150 line and usually a same-day job. If it is part of a bigger load, a remodel's worth of kitchen or a move-out, the appliances ride with everything else and the price is set by the whole load.
What the price covers
Disconnect and carry
Unplugged, hoses and vents pulled, strapped to the appliance dolly and taken down the stairs or out the garage.
Refrigerant recovery
Fridges, freezers, ACs and dehumidifiers routed to a licensed handler before scrapping. Surcharge named on the quote.
Scrap and donation
Working units routed to donation or reuse where possible; the rest to metal recycling after the run.
Gas and hard-wired
We tell you up front when a plumber or electrician has to cap a line before the crew comes.

What the work looks like

Questions about appliance removal
Can you take a refrigerator that still has freon in it?
Yes. That is the normal case. It goes to a licensed handler who recovers the refrigerant before the unit is scrapped, and that step is a surcharge listed on the quote. What we won't do is cut the lines ourselves.
Do you disconnect gas appliances?
No. A gas range, gas dryer or gas water heater needs the line shut off and capped by a plumber or the gas company first. We'll tell you that when you book so the crew doesn't arrive to a job it can't do.
What about a water heater?
Drained and disconnected by the plumber who replaced it, then yes. A full water heater is far too heavy and too wet to carry.
Is a working appliance worth anything?
To us, no money back, but it is worth routing to donation or reuse where possible instead of the scrap yard, and we do that.
Can you take the old one when the new one is delivered?
Yes, and the simplest way is to book us for the afternoon of the delivery so the old one isn't sitting in the garage for a month.
What about a chest freezer full of food?
Empty it first, please. Spoiled food is a hazardous mess at the scrap yard and the crew will have to decline it full.
