Electronics, tires and the odd things the trash won't take, in Colorado Springs
The three old TVs in the basement. The tires from two cars ago. The elliptical that became a coat rack. The grill, the water softener, the exercise bike, the broken safe. These are the calls that start with 'can you even take this?' The answer is usually yes, and here is the price logic.
Some things cost more to get rid of than their size suggests, because the landfill either will not take them or charges extra to handle them. Electronics are the big one: televisions, monitors, computers and printers go to recycling rather than the dump, and there is a per-item fee that shows up on your quote as what it is. Tires are the same, charged per tire. Both are legitimate costs we pass through, not a markup.
The rest of this page is the catalogue of odd items. Exercise equipment, from a bench to a treadmill, is heavy and awkward but rides as ordinary junk, priced by volume. Grills ride once the propane tank is off; we cannot take the tank. Water softeners and water heaters ride once they are drained and disconnected. Safes are a quote on their own because of the weight. Pianos are the same.
What cannot ride at all
Paint, stain, solvents, oil, antifreeze, pesticides, pool chemicals, propane and other pressurised tanks, asbestos, medical waste and anything radioactive or explosive. Those need a hazardous-waste route and a hauling truck is the wrong one. The crew will tell you so and point you at the right place rather than take something it should not. The what-we-take guide has the full list.
Small electronics by the box
Phones, cables, keyboards, routers and the drawer of dead chargers go by the box at a small fee. Hard drives: if you are worried about the data, pull the drive and keep it, or wipe it first. We do not wipe drives and will not promise what happens to data on a machine we recycle.
What the price covers
Electronics recycling
TVs, monitors, computers, printers routed to recycling, per-item fee named on the quote.
Tires
Per-tire fee passed through. Rims off or on; on is a little more.
Heavy single items
Exercise equipment rides as junk by volume; safes and pianos quoted on sight by weight and crew.
The refusals
Paint, chemicals, propane, asbestos and medical waste are declined, with a note on where they go.

What the work looks like

Questions about electronics, tires and odd items
Why is there a fee for a TV?
Because the landfill won't take it and the recycler charges per unit. We pass that fee through and name it. A tube TV costs more than a flat screen.
Do you take car batteries?
Yes, to recycling. Keep them upright and tell us how many.
What about the propane tank?
No. Take it off the grill and return it to a tank exchange or the retailer. The grill rides without it.
Can you take a hot water tank?
Drained and disconnected by the plumber, yes. See the appliance page.
Will you take a piano?
Yes, quoted on sight. An upright is a two- or three-person job with the right dolly; a grand is a different conversation.
Do you wipe hard drives?
No. Pull the drive or wipe it before we come if the data matters to you.
