Questions people ask before they call

Licensing in a state that has no junk licence, how the price is set, what we can't take, the surcharges, donation, PCS dates, hot tubs, hoarding, steep driveways and how far we go. The short answers.

Are you licensed and insured?

Insured, yes: the crews that do the hauling carry general liability insurance and are registered to do business locally. Licensed is a trick question in Colorado, because the state does not issue a junk-removal licence and no company in El Paso County has one. Anyone who claims a state junk licence is confused or selling.

How is the price set?

By how much of the truck you fill, how heavy it is, how far it has to be carried, and whether anything in it carries a surcharge. The crew looks, names the number, and you say yes or no. Nothing is charged for the look.

Can you quote over the phone?

A range, from the cost guide on this site. A firm price, no. We can't see the stairs or weigh the load through a phone, and a company that quotes firm without looking is either guessing high or planning to add it at the truck.

How fast can you come?

Same day most days if you call in the morning, otherwise the next day. Deadline jobs, a PCS report date, a closing, an HOA letter, go on the calendar ahead of the date.

What won't you take?

Paint, stain, solvents, oil, antifreeze, pesticides, pool chemicals, propane and other tanks, asbestos, medical waste. Refrigerant appliances go, but to a licensed handler first, with a surcharge. The what-we-take guide has the full list.

Why is there a surcharge on a mattress?

The landfill charges a per-unit fee on mattresses, box springs, tires and electronics, because they don't compact or they have to go to a recycler. We pass the fee through and name it on the quote.

Do you donate things?

Where possible, yes. Working furniture, appliances, tools and building material are routed to donation or recycling before anything goes to the landfill. We don't name a partner or promise a percentage, because acceptance changes week to week.

Do I have to carry anything to the curb?

No. The crew carries from wherever it sits: the basement, the upstairs bedroom, the deck, the back of the lot. That is most of what you are paying for.

We're PCSing. Can you clear the garage by the report date?

Yes. Give us the date, we book the truck for a day or two before it, and you get a dated receipt for housing or the landlord. June through August is mostly this.

Can you get the hot tub out without a crane?

Yes. It's cut into sections on the deck and carried out through the gate. The deck and the fence stay.

Do you do hoarding cleanups?

Yes, quietly, with the person's say over what goes and in as many visits as it takes. The truck is unmarked and the crew doesn't discuss the job with neighbors.

What about a steep driveway or a mountain lot?

The crew parks where the truck safely can and carries from there. Rockrimmon, the west side above Manitou and the lots up Ute Pass are a normal day. A long carry is in the price, which is why we look first.

Do you go to Woodland Park? Pueblo?

Woodland Park, yes, regularly. Pueblo, no; it's about 45 miles south and outside our range.

Do you really answer at night?

Yes. The phone is answered day and night, every day, and a person calls back to set the time, the same day for most jobs.
